Leisure Education Curriculum Committee

Conference Call Notes
December 5, 2006
1-2 p.m.

Present on call:  Helaine Brown, Earle Robbins, Jill Oettinger, Amy Murphy, Claudia Mincemoyer (chair)

Review status of previous projects

Health Series-the new 4-HCCS health series arrived and is in the PDC.  The committee did not think that we needed to conduct an in-service to introduce the curriculum. They thought it would be more useful to share how educators have used the curriculum in their counties.  Because the series has only been available since September, the committee recommended putting this on hold until 2007.

Archery project-This series was being developed by Densie Raum, coordinator of the Archery in Public School program, who has since left the organization.  Earle Robbins is going to contact the APS to see if someone else would be willing to work on re-writing the project.

Stamp collecting-Cheryl Edgcomb, Stamp Camp program director, has a manual that could be adapted for a 4-H project. We have a small amount of funds ($500.00) for writing the manual and producing as a Web project.  The writer who was hired failed to produce any results in a timely manner. Lee Hoar, retired 4-H educator, is considering helping with the writing.  Cheryl Edgcomb and Earle Robbins are going to meet with Lee.Camp Directors (and interested others) In-service-There was no in-service this year as fall in-service was canceled.  The committee felt that there were important issues to be discussed and we probably should not wait until Fall 2007.  April 12 was selected as a potential date pending a location.  Issues that were discussed for the agenda:

Camp evaluation summary (only 7 counties responded)

How to handle emergencies at camp

Cell phone use at camp
Myspace/posting pictures
Presentation of ACA sessions (Helaine Brown and Claudia Mincemoyer will discuss with Liesel Dreisbach, Kelly Weisner, and Toni Stuetz about possible presentations)

The next conference call is March 26 from 9-10 a.m.
