1918-1929: The first agriculture agent, Paul Korb started in 1918 and the first mention of club work involved three school clubs in three high schools taking a pig feeding project in 1919. By 1920, Sullivan County youth were competing in Dairy and Livestock judging at State College.
1930-1940: The first NE Pennsylvania Camp in which Sullivan County youth participated was in 1930 at Camp Brule in Sullivan County. In 1931, the first 4-H picnic was held in Laporte. In 1936 we had the first 4-H leader training.
1941-1952: In 1943 due to the scarcity of rubber and gasoline no 4-H meetings were held. Circular letters with the slogan “Service for Victory” involved youth and youth were involved in purchasing bonds. In 1948, William Gregory started as county agent in 1948 and served for 32 years.
1953-62: The first Sullivan Dairy Show was held. Our first International youth exchange was in 1960.
1963-1971: Demonstration winners traveled to Binghamton NY in 1963 and did their demonstrations on television. Barbara Waldron (Calaman) was the first Sullivan County member to go to National 4-H Congress in Chicago.
1972-1984: During this time there 450 regular 4-H members and 232 other youth served. Youth were very involvement in demonstrations and exchange.
1984-1993: The 4-H Air Rifle program was started. All 4-H projects now displayed at fair.
1993-2001: A three year fundraising efforts in a new 4-H building. Efforts are expanded in reaching at-risk youth, resulting in a second 4-H summer assistant position.
2002: 4-H involved 63 leaders and 605 youth. Leonard Calaman was a National winner at in demonstrations and went to the National Engineering Event.
