Leisure Education Curriculum Committee Meeting Minutes

Conference Call Meeting Minutes
February 19, 2004; 10-11 a.m.

Camp Evaluations
The 4-H Camper survey and the Extension Educator Survey were reviewed and revisions suggested. The Extension Educator survey will be posted on-line for a ten day period in late-April. Claudia Mincemoyer will let educators know it is coming via e-mail and then send another email with a direct URL link to the survey.

The 4-H Camper survey will be sent via email to every county. There is space on the survey for county/camp-specific questions. Each county will decide whether to ask youth to complete the survey at the end of camp or send the survey to the youth’s home after camp.

The Regional Directors will review both surveys with the committee’s revisions prior to sending.

Overview of Camp Director’s Meeting
The camp directors meeting on 2/13 was discussed. A Web site is being explored to host camp activities, themes, resources, itineraries, etc. Each camp would access the database and enter their resources and ideas at the end of camp each year. In subsequent years, time and effort can be saved by searching what was done at other camps in previous years. Mike McDavid and Claudia Mincemoyer are working with ICT on this effort. A camp listserv will also be established for sharing of ideas and resources.

The Cornell Camp Counselor Training Manual was reviewed and recommendations were made to use core components of the manual to train teen camp counselors.

Outdoor Adventures Curriculum
The 4HCCS Outdoor Adventures Curriculum was approved for purchase by the Curriculum Management Team. It will be available in late-summer for county use. Shaver’s Creek staff were instrumental in the development of the curriculum and have agreed to provide training for 4-H volunteers and extension educators. Tentative dates have been set for September 13 and 14, 2004 at Shaver’s Creek. A grant proposal was submitted to the Outreach Partnership Fund to help defray the cost of training.
