4-H Youth Consumer and Financial Issues Curriculum Committee
Conference Call Minutes
Tuesday, January 30, 2001
9:00- 10:00 a.m.

Committee Members
Cathy Bowen, Marilyn Furry, Patricia Powley , Christine Tomascik, and Sarah Siegel
(All participated in the conference call).

1. Committee charge
A new curriculum development process for 4H projects is being implemented this year. Project revisions or new projects that need financial support will be reviewed yearly by the Curriculum Management Team. The Consumer and Financial Issues Curriculum committee is charged with discussing potential new curricula, revision of existing curricula, or the purchase of curricula.

2. Activities/Work for 2001
Kids & Kash revision
Will be revised by the original design team of agent: Debra Bryant, Patricia Lagerman, Dawn Olson, Christine Tomascik. A fifth booklet addressing internet issues will be developed by C. Bowen.

Committee's role
Review the project booklets and leader's guide for updating. Send initial comments on possible revisions to Christine Tomascik and Cathy Bowen by March 31. C. Bowen will send a compiled list of changes to everyone as needed. Parenting resources need strengthening.

3. Notification of curriculum proposal awarded support
The curriculum management team is meeting on January 31, 2001. A decision on funding for this project is expected by February 13.

4. 4HCCS project with In-Charge
Marilyn Furry provided information on the curriculum project with 4HCCS (Cooperative Curriculum System*) and InCharge Institute of America (formerly known as Genus Credit Management) a nonprofit phone counseling agency based in Orlando, Florida. The project is funded from January 2001-July 2002. There are 12 cooperating states with representatives from FFA. There will also be youth representation on the design team. Claudia Mincemoyer, Marilyn Furry and other members of the design team will meet in Washington, DC the week of February 4. Marilyn will be able to share more details about the topics that will be covered, and the targeted age range of children for the project materials/resources. Currently, the children in grades 7-12 are being considered, but that range may be reduced to excluded grades 11 and 12 based on discussion among design team members.

5. Committee composition--suggestions
This committee could be strengthened with representation of agents who do programs primarily with youth. Names of individuals that might be approached about joining were suggested (Janice Alberico, Pat Lagerman, Debra Bryant, Dawn Olson, Larry O'Donnell, Ray Kennerknecht, and Sherri Abbruzzi). C. Tomasick will mention this committee to Sherri Abbruzzi (youth agent-Monroe) to see if she has an interest. Also, the enrollment data for the Kids and Kash project will be scanned for counties with high enrollments. These counties with youth agents might be interested in working with the committee. (A decision was not made on who would follow-up with these counties.). Youth agents should be considered from regions not represented on the current committee.

6. Activities for 2002
Committee members should be alert to projects the committee can consider for the next proposal process. A date to meet by conference all in early Fall will be determined in the next few days.
