Meeting Notes
November 4
9-10 a.m.
Portfolio Power Pilot Project--
Four counties agreed to pilot the project; Westmoreland, Snyder, Bedford and Schuylkill. The curriculum committee thought that we should proceed with the pilot phase and hold a brief in-service during March Statewide In-service to introduce the project, even if it is not in final form. This project will be proposed as a new project to the Curriculum Management Team in January/February 2004.
State Days/Theatre Arts Activities--
Claudia will communicate with Lydia Everhart that the committee felt these events were very successful. About 30 youth participated in the first-time event. Note: Lydia is working on the theatre activities as well as having a 4-H Choir during State Days. Please provide additional input directly to Lydia about these events.
4HCCS Theatre Arts Adventures Curriculum Revisions--
This project series is currently being revised by 4HCCS and will be available in summer of 2004. The committee supported the continuation of this project.
PSU Traveling Theatre Group--
The PSU Theatre Department has a traveling theatre group made up of graduate students who travel to schools in PA and perform abridged versions of classic plays. The troupe traveled to two schools last spring and hope to do more this year. We would like to publicize these events to 4-H Theatre Arts groups. There is a performance and a theatre workshop as part of the theatre event over two days.
Claudia will contact the Theatre Department and see if we can get any advance notice of these performance/workshop dates.
New Communications Expressive Arts Curriculum Ideas
Advance Drawing/Art Curriculum--there were over 300 entries at Farm Show (?) in the arts and drawing categories. This type of a curriculum would be a follow-up to A Palette of Fun. There isn’t College faculty support for this type of project, so we would need to collaborate with another department or organization.
Etiquette/Social Communications--
the committee felt that this is an increasing problem among youth and often have requests for this type of curriculum. The committee is going to investigate potential resources for a project or guide for youth to develop better social skills.
Historical Crafts--
this was mentioned as an area of interest to youth. The curriculum would include information and how-tos for colonial and other historic crafts. Claudia noted that several years ago we did contact the PA Historical Society about resources for Pennsylvania Heritage Crafts. The committee will try to identify resources and collaborators for this curriculum area.
