GIS Basics-The three volumes for the new GIS Basics curriculum were reviewed.  It was suggested the curriculum be kept on the web for faster updating of information.  There were some concerns about age appropriateness and it was suggested that the writers and editors make conscious efforts to ensure that concepts and language are age-appropriate.  It was also suggested that beginning ages for each volume be identified.  The committee believed that volume 1 should have a minimum age of 10.  Will the leaders guide discuss the experiential learning model?  It is difficult to follow that model through the activities in the volumes.  If we are going to begin using this project in PA, the orienteering contest at State Days should be updated to reflect use of this information.  Also, the committee would like specialist to consider development of fact sheets discussing how GIS might be used on the farm, in business, etc.

State Days Tractor Driving Contest-John Tyson will work on a map to include for the skid steer driving course.

Tractor Driving and Safety-Since Dennis Murphy has developed a certification program for tractor driving it was suggested that fact sheet/activity sheets be developed to support other topic areas that are needed to support the 4-H tractor driving program.  John will talk with Dennis Buckmaster about helping with this effort.

ATV Driving-At this time, ATV driving clubs are still not covered under our volunteer liability insurance.  Safety programs are allowed as long as the parameters in the policy manual are followed, i.e., they are taught by a certified instructor.
