Subcommittee chairs of the Animal Science Curriculum Committee met in 311 Henning at 8:00 AM on Tuesday January 22, 2002. Bryan, P. Comerford, Clauer, Harpster, Olver, and Mikesell were present.
Minutes:
The following curriculum proposals for 2002 were presented.

4-H Horsemanship Skills Curriculum
Focus on individual skills development including, safety, riding, and handling. Includes four skill levels, evaluations, and videos. Projected implementation at county level in 2003.

Small Animal — H. Harpster
Potential for submission of dog curriculum change pending approval of the sub-committee. If approved, this will be a late submission.

Dairy — D. Olver
Potential for new 4HCCS Dairy Leaders Guide if available. Will be a late submission if available.

Livestock — K. Bryan
Market Goat Reference Book will be published in 2002.
Lamb Skill-a-thon CD will be produced in-house, and not put through the curriculum development process. These materials will probably not be free of charge.

Poultry — P. Clauer
Four new poultry contests have been approved by YPCC.
Proposal to purchase National Avian Bowl Manual to support approved contest (1/Team)
Proposal to purchase National Avian Judging Manual to support approved contest (1/Team member)
Proposal 4HCCS Poultry Series
Proposal to divide and re-tool current embryology curriculum into two parts: Beginners Guide and Advanced Guide (1/embryology participant)
Proposal to purchase 4HCCS Embryology Leader’s Guides
Proposal to replace current Brooding and Rearing Guide with a Beginners Poultry Manual
Proposal to create a web-based preparation guide for National Poultry BBQ Contest, "Preparing for Poultry Barbeque.Presentations"
The next meeting will be on Feb. 28, 2002 from 8:30-9:30 AM in 305 ASI. Agenda will include coordinating the department’s 4-H web presence. Christian Vinten-Johansen and Karen Vines will be attending. Other agenda items are due to Bob Mikesell by 8:29 AM February, 28, 2002
