Curriculum Committee Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct needs assessment to identify priorities for curriculum area.
  2. Conduct materials searches to identify existing curricula.
  3. Establish priorities for curriculum development for the coming year.
  4. Review projects in curriculum area every five years.
  5. Recommend to Curriculum Management Team reprinting, revision, or deletion of curriculum.


Responsibilities for new Curriculum Being Considered for Development or Purchase:

  1. Conduct formal or informal needs assessment.
    -establish the need for resources in this content area
  2. Identify the audience.
  3. Identify existing curricula related to content.
  4. Establish goals, objectives, learning outcomes.

    -identify specific life skills, assets, and content.
  5. Identify delivery method (project, video, reference book, etc.)
  6. Develop budget for development and production.
  7. Submit 4-H Curriculum Proposal.
    -must be submitted with approval from a curriculum committee
    -submitted to Curriculum Management Team
  8. Develop timeline for proposed curriculum.
  9. Identify training necessary to adopt curriculum.
  10. Develop case statements for priority curriculum areas.


Team Membership

  1. County extension staff self-nominate for curriculum committees based on interests and skills.
  2. Regional directors and committee chairs approve nominees.
  3. Chair and committee members establish rotation schedule. Appointment is generally for a two-year term.
  4. Smaller committees are strongly recommended (5-7 members). One representative from each region is not required.
